Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on court had led some to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, took control to create a decider.

He defended four early break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
