Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
